Conclusion: The ZTE Optik is cheap enough that it falls into the impulse purchase category, and users who drop $99 on the Optik will definitely get their money’s worth.

Reviews Word on the street for the ZTE Optik

6.0
As you'd guess, data speeds aren't blazing on Sprint's 3G network, but it's certainly better than no data at all when you're not near a WiFi hotspot.

6.5
For what it’s worth video quality was decent and plenty good for YouTube, but there was some choppiness here and there as we panned around and switched focus.

Overall

6.3 Out of 10

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Screen

It should be made clear though that without color management options, pretty much any device's display will have some discrepancy from true color fidelity.
by Android Police (Apr, 2012)
The 7” display is decent, but as you might expect is not top of the line.
by PhoneArena (Apr, 2012)
It's weighty, but not unbearable, has handy grip areas behind the display, and a spacious (yet unobtrusive) bezel so you can grip the tablet without accidentally touching the screen.
by Android Police (Apr, 2012)

Operating System

Those familiar with an Android handset will find that Honeycomb is similar enough, but there are some differences- such as the app drawer moving to the top- that take some adjustment.
by PhoneArena (Apr, 2012)
Interface: The ZTE Optik is running a pretty standard version of Android 3.2 Honeycomb.
by PhoneArena (Apr, 2012)
We’ve seen many Android offerings that undercut the iPad, but $400-500 is still asking a lot.
by PhoneArena (Apr, 2012)

Operating system

That aside though, the tablet's software seems to run pretty smoothly.
by Android Police (Apr, 2012)
Adding a tempting new device to the current pool of affordable 7" tablets, ZTE and Sprint introduced the 3G-connected Optik in February, bringing to market a great 7" display, Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and an ample 1.2GHz dual-core snapdragon processor, all for $99 on a new contract.
by Android Police (Apr, 2012)
It has a very respectable spec sheet with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon S3 processor, 5MP rear and 2MP front cameras, 1GB of RAM with 16GB of internal memory and a microSD slot for further expansion all running on Android 3.2 Honeycomb.
by PhoneArena (Apr, 2012)

Camera

Furthermore, while the camera is capable of 4x digital zoom, I wouldn't recommend it – images taken at full zoom are hopelessly out of focus, and frankly hard to look at.
by Android Police (Apr, 2012)
Camera: The 5 megapixel main shooter in the Optik isn't the best.
by PhoneArena (Apr, 2012)
Since Honeycomb's stock camcorder app lacks any kind of focus control, the camcorder will focus wherever it wants, and stick you with the same focal plane for the duration of the video.
by Android Police (Apr, 2012)

Battery

On a full charge, I was able to watch a 2-hour movie, browse the web for ~1.5 hours, snap some photos, play a rousing round of Angry Birds Space, and look at a few YouTube videos before hitting the "14% Warning" at about 7 hours of use with a 1.5hr road trip somewhere in the middle.
by Android Police (Apr, 2012)
It should have plenty juice to get a user through a full day of usage without having to charge.
by PhoneArena (Apr, 2012)
The only rating they give is for up to 100 hours of standby time, but no usage time is given.
