The AV remote is an absolutely brilliant addition for the casual coffee tablet/couch buyer, and the 8" screen makes for more content on-screen and larger fonts that both you and grandma can read.

Reviews Word on the street for the VIZIO 8" Tablet with WiFi

Unlike those low end budget tablets, the Vizio tablet has a capacitive multi-touch display rather than a resistive display, and it's got reasonably good viewing angles and brightness.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Operating System

The Vizio compares very favorably to budget Android tablets running at 800 x 480 (smartphone) resolution.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
Have no fear Android lovers: you can still get to the home screen and its widgets by tapping on the Widget Bar icon in the app launcher, and run third party widgets that you've installed via the Android Market.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
The Vizio tablet is relatively user friendly as Android tablets go, and it has access to the wide range of apps on the Android Market.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)

Operating system

Vizio went with Gingerbread because it afforded them more room for customization (Google still keeps tight reins on Honeycomb), and because there are many more OS 2.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
Though we really like these big Honeycomb tablets along with the iPad 2 because they have cutting edge hardware and an OS that's optimized for tablets, they're not exactly pocketable and they tend to be expensive at $400-$700 for WiFi-only versions.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
The AV remote and IR blaster may well be the Vizio's biggest differentiator from the Android tablet crowd, and with more AV control buttons, they could easily upsell big box shoppers who were considering expensive touch screen remotes.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)

Flash is certainly very watchable at 480p full screen, and would likely benefit from performance improvements in newer versions of the Flash Player.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
But load some sharp and colorful photos or a 720p video and the screen comes alive.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
That tweak is relatively simple: rather than the home screen being the first thing you see, the app launcher greets you, similar to the iPhone and iPad.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)

Vizio plans to release a Honeycomb upgrade for their first tablet at some point, and they're also aggressive with firmware updates that improve performance and may add new apps (we've been testing their beta firmware releases on our unit).
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
In our video review, we compare the Vizio to several other popular tablets, examine the custom UI, test Adobe Flash and video playback and check out the AV remote.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
It's a fully Google-approved product, so it comes with the Android Market and all core Google apps including Maps, Navigation, YouTube, Gmail, Email and the web browser.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)

The Vizio 8" tablet has a 1GHz single core Marvell Armada CPU with 512 megs of RAM and 4 gigs of internal storage with 2 gigs available.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
That said, the hardware features and specs won't win over geeks who want the fastest CPU, cutting edge display technology and lots of internal storage.
by MobileTechReview (Aug, 2011)
But the lesser brand alternatives often have low resolution displays so you see relatively little on screen, and they have slower CPUs.
