Reviews Word on the street for the Samsung ATIV Tab 5

The 440 nits of brightness, the color representation, the contrast and especially the viewing angles are much better than what your typical laptop TN panel offers, but that can be said for almost any tablet.

The screen isn't bad in terms of colours and viewing angles, and the touch sensitivity is spot on.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Operating System

The Samsung ATIV Smart PC, as other Intel Atom-based tablets with Windows 8 sound great on paper – thin and light, they are capable to run legacy Windows programs, and have battery life comparable with iOS or Android slates.
by PhoneArena (Feb, 2013)
This idea of convertible Windows 8 tablet-laptops is all well and good, but as a tablet, this is underpowered.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)
And let's not forget that this is running full Windows 8, so more RAM is generally better.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)

Personal preference comes into play here, but for us, a 16:9 screen isn't good for tablets, even if it is a better ratio for watching movies on.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)
It's not the only add-on you get, though - there's also Samsung's S-Pen stylus, with a compatible digitiser built into the screen.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)
Take the screen off its tablet base, enable Windows 8's touch-friendly tablet UI and you have a casual sofa-surfing device.

Operating system

Interface and functionality Unlike Windows RT, which only runs Modern UI apps written for ARM processors, and enters a limited desktop interface just for MS Office, Windows 8 must have been a tough nut to crack for Microsoft, as it had to ensure backdoor access to the legacy desktop, as well as force the future upon its base with the Live Tile Modern UI front and center.
by PhoneArena (Feb, 2013)
It runs full-blown Windows 8 (not RT), so supports legacy apps, desktop apps and anything else you'd care to fill it with.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)
Generally, it's the not the newer, optimised Windows 8 stuff that's the problem (despite apps being sluggish to open), but anything outside that was inconsistent.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)

Regardless, the battery life is still possibly the strongest point of the Ativ Smart PC.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)
But perhaps we see the reason why these are so low in the battery life benchmark: a colossal 5 hours and 17 minutes.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)
Yes, it has its good moments - the battery life and the pen input.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)

For everyday tasks like using Office, browsing, watching videos, light picture editing or basic games it performs fine, but there is lag and stuttering with more demanding tasks, and even in the desktop interface when things get busy.
by PhoneArena (Feb, 2013)
Very simple games will run, but often with major controller lag or something else, and that's if the framerate is tolerable in the first place.
by TechRadar (Jan, 2013)
Samsung ATIV Smart PC Sample Video: Samsung ATIV Smart PC Indoor Sample Video: Multimedia The biggest gripe about the default Win 8 media apps is not the music player or picture application, but rather the default video player, which doesn't support such popular containers like MKV.
