The IPS display is extremely sharp thanks to the high resolution packed into 8.2 inches, and it's also very bright- bright enough to use outdoors.

Reviews Word on the street for the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2

Experiential speed is good, though the tablet doesn't feel wickedly fast when navigating the UI or running Office apps.

I don't like the placement of the 5-megapixel camera; however, I do like the inclusion of an infrared sensor.

And that display is extremely sharp and bright thanks to the IPS 1280 x 800 panel.

The edges are covered with a easy-to-grip rubber material that extends to the back, until meeting with an aluminum plate.

Network technology

Like the Droid XYBoard 10.1 it has an IR Blaster with Digit, an AV remote control app plus TV Guide, and it has 4G LTE as well as 3G on Verizon Wireless.
by MobileTechReview (Dec, 2012)
Verizon's LTE network 4G speeds were impressively fast; I downloaded a 19MB app in 22 seconds, while the same file took 16 seconds on Wi-Fi.
by c|net (Dec, 2011)
For those of you who don't need 4G LTE for data anywhere, Motorola also makes a WiFi only XYBoard 8.2 (no Droid in the name) that starts at $399 for the 16 gig version direct from Motorola's website.
by MobileTechReview (Dec, 2012)

The Xyboard's photos were sharp and clear, with good color reproduction.

While setup was simple and easy, the range on the infrared sensor is severely limited when using the software, annoyingly topping out at about 8 feet.
by c|net (Dec, 2011)
It has a front 1.3MP camera and a rear 5MP camera with LED flash and the usual WiFi 8902.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a GPS.
by MobileTechReview (Dec, 2012)

The smaller size requires a few changes: ports and controls are in different locations and the XYBoard 8.2 has a smaller battery: 3960 vs. 7000 mAh.
by MobileTechReview (Dec, 2012)
That means you'll have to resort to a less precise capacitive stylus with the XYBoard 8.2 if you want to write notes or draw, and battery life is shorter.
by MobileTechReview (Dec, 2012)
Smaller tablets generally have shorter battery life because there's less room for the battery, and Motorola wanted to make the XYBoard 8.2 very thin and light: it weighs 0.86 pounds and is 0.35" thick.

Operating system

Given that context, Motorola's original tablet was well-designed, with great hardware, and since it marked the debut of Honeycomb, it was arguably the first Android tablet with a capable operating system.
by c|net (Dec, 2011)
Unfortunately, in order to sideload files onto the Xyboard, you're required to first install Motorola's MotoCast software on your PC.

We were unable to determine whether this was a hardware or software issue, however.
