Although browser benchmarks don't always reflect the performance you see when browsing real websites, JavaScript performance in IE 11 on Surface 2 (as measured by the SunSpider benchmark) beats every other tablet significantly (and even the iPhone 5s with its new 64-bit processor), thanks to the GPU acceleration Microsoft has perfected.

Reviews Word on the street for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3

7.9
The 10.6-inch display is small, especially for a full Windows laptop, but it's crisp and bright and has a full 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution.

8.0
More importantly, the advantages Windows RT brings to the table aren’t exclusive to Microsoft’s Surface tablet, and with some ‘full-fat’ Windows 8 tablets offering a similar feature set at around the same price, we can’t say that Surface is blowing us away.

8.5
In contrast to the Surface RT's 1366 x 768 resolution display, this is undoubtedly sharper with its visuals, since every single detail has definition – whereas some jagginess was evident with the Surface RT's display.

8.3
But Windows 8 and Windows RT didn't have a fraction of the iOS and Android apps, the kickstand didn't always hold it up in your lap and not everyone like Windows 8 enough to see Surface as a real iPad competitor.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Screen

The 1,920 by 1080 resolution is great for movies (and means you'll keep the DPI and zoom settings up, because while text is crisp, clear and smooth it can also be a little small on the 10.6-inch screen).

You can choose between using IE in the familiar desktop interface or the cleaner full-screen immersive interface.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2013)
That's important, because the screen is never going to be blacker than when it's off - and most LCDs are more of a dark grey than a true black when they're off.

Operating System

When it comes to personalization, Windows 8 isn't as deep as Android, but it's far better than what the iPad delivers.
by PhoneArena (Feb, 2013)
Added to which, the level of big name Windows Store apps is still way below that of the iOS and Android equivalents.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2013)
For example, Kayak has an excellent app for booking hotels that makes good use of photos to help you find somewhere that looks nice; Tripit doesn't have an official app but there is a Windows 8 version of the excellent third-party My Trips app.

Operating system

As we know, Surface 2 doesn't run full Windows 8, instead opting for the hobbled Windows RT without support for legacy desktop - unlike Atom-based 8-inch tablets that you'll see on sale for similar prices.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2013)
In terms of apps, again, since this is Windows 8, you can install and run any desktop software or game that runs on Windows - or Windows RT..

We know what you're thinking, this is Windows 8, so how can the music player be different from the usual Windows Media Player from yesterday?
by PhoneArena (Feb, 2013)

Apps

But when we first set up the Surface 2, installing apps and syncing all our email and files from SkyDrive (which means the Wi-Fi was in almost constant use) and running multiple Office applications and browser windows on the desktop, using the Balanced power profile and with the screen brightness on half, we measured five hours of solid use before the battery went from fully charged to just 6.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2013)
If you add in third-party apps, there's a reasonable choice of apps and the selection is growing steadily.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2013)
Whatever music you listen to, the sound from the speakers on the side is far better than you'd expect from something this thin.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2014)

Battery

The innovative design of Surface is even better with Surface 2; the kickstand works better in a wider range of positions, performance is visible improved; in many cases the battery will last all day - and the screen is vivid and accurate.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2013)
The tablet gave up the ghost after just under seven hours, which we thought was pretty good going compared to the Surface Pro's short-lived battery life.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2014)
You can get nine or ten hours of web browsing, although that depends on the sites you visit; videos, Flash and WebGL take more power than simple text pages.
