The idea of adapting Android apps is an exciting one, and the implementation is rock solid, but there still aren’t enough good apps to make the PlayBook’s App World a compelling ecosystem.

Reviews Word on the street for the BlackBerry PlayBook

Video output over HDMI worked flawlessly.

These add a huge amount of enjoyment to videos, games and music simply because you actually have the absorbing affect of stereo (rather than mono).

Unfortunately, the PlayBook isn’t quite as adept at handling other types of Flash content, such as games — in fact, most online Flash games I tried to play were far too sluggish to have any real fun with.

The screen is great as well, making the BlackBerry PlayBook a pleasant device to use, and not bad for its cheap price.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Perhaps the most exciting part of the whole apps deal, though, is that you can manually add Android apps.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
And while the operating system itself is speedy, quite a few apps don't perform quite as well, including even the Facebook app.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2012)
You can link the two and use the PlayBook as the screen and controller for interacting with your phone's email and calendar apps.

Operating system

Speaking of multitasking, this very ability is key to the PlayBook's interface, as are gestures.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
And were the software up to scratch it could easily be one of our top choice tablets.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
Getting around in the OS is intuitive and elegant, but truth be told, webOS does a better job with managing cards, both in the feel of moving through them and with the new stacks feature in webOS 2.0, which lets you group related activities.

In general, the PlayBook's keyboard is really excellent, proving that RIM can make an on-screen keyboard as well as it can make a hardware one.
by The Verge (Feb, 2012)
The screen itself is great, too.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2012)
We'll go into more detail on that in the next section.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2012)

Web browser

The web browser is fast and fairly smooth, too - interface niggles aside.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2012)
What’s most impressive about the PlayBook’s browser, however, is that it’s probably the first mobile web browser I’ve ever used that actually handles Flash properly.
by The Verge (Apr, 2011)
Panning and zooming are both smooth and responsive in the browser, and double-tapping to zoom on text works well.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2012)

Operating System

It's very much like iOS in concept, but the aesthetic is different.
by TechRadar (Jul, 2012)
It being easier to actually interact with Flash videos and games than on any other mobile platform (perhaps bar WebOS).
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
We’ve always been impressed with the basic ideas behind the PlayBook OS — it’s a lot like webOS, and that’s a very good thing from a usability standpoint.
