Reviews Word on the street for the Asus VivoTab RT

7.0
Purely based on aesthetics, we prefer the Tab RT's design more than Microsoft's Surface.

6.7
The screen looks great, with accurate colors and near-180-degree viewing angles — unlike most laptops vertical viewing angles are also quite good, meaning you won't have to work to find a suitable angle.

8.0
If you're not familiar with Windows RT, it's a new version of the Windows family, along with Windows 8, that runs on ARM-based devices.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Operating System

As it stands now, navigating through a traditional Windows interface can be a frustrating experience.
by c|net (Oct, 2012)
The desktop side should also offer compatibility with most current Windows apps too.
by TrustedReviews (Aug, 2012)
This wouldn't be so bad if the Windows Desktop had somehow been redesigned and optimized for touch.
by c|net (Oct, 2012)

Apps

Apps can take several seconds to load at all and several more to load fully; there are stutters and lags as you swipe through apps; some taps and gestures just don't register.
by The Verge (Oct, 2012)
No additional apps can be installed to the Desktop interface, however.
by c|net (Oct, 2012)
It should hopefully be able to play ball with serious image editing and art apps.
by TrustedReviews (Aug, 2012)

Operating system

It’s a two-part system –a desktop half that looks and feels just like Windows 7, and the Metro UI, which is a fully touch-driven interface that looks more like Windows Phone 7.
by TrustedReviews (Aug, 2012)
The Metro version is only available in Windows RT and Windows 8.

If you're attempting to edit a Google Drive Web document without a hardware keyboard connected, the software keyboard fails to pop up automatically.

Screen

The tablet uses a Super IPS display, which brings superb viewing angles, good colour reproduction and class leader-matching top brightness (rated at 600 Nits).
by TrustedReviews (Aug, 2012)
Unfortunately, while 10.1 inches is a good size for a tablet screen it's not good for a laptop.
by The Verge (Oct, 2012)
And its larger screen offers a more cinematic, immersive experience.
by c|net (Oct, 2012)

Battery

And while we obviously weren’t able to test this in a brief demo, Asus says the tablet will last for up to 13 hours with the keyboard module’s battery working alongside the tablet’s one.
by TrustedReviews (Aug, 2012)
The keyboard dock includes a USB port as well as an extra battery (you'll get nine hours of use out of the tablet itself).
by TechRadar (Oct, 2012)
After leaving it on maximum brightness and spending a few hours with it browsing the Web and playing games, the battery barely lost a fourth of its reserves and it can definitely go a workday or two without a charge with casual use.
