Viewing angles are far superior to Archos's previous efforts, whose pictures would fade into darkness when viewed from the wrong spot.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Operating system

Navigation and app-opening performance was about as fast as on any previous Honeycomb tablet; however, we did experience a few instances where the operating system would hang for a second or two after we tapped on an app to open it.

We're not sure how it'll cope with TV episodes and less-than-legit videos, but Archos says the software automatically nabs these pictures from the net, off an independent database.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
In use, the Android Honeycomb operating system didn't feel quite as snappy as we'd seen it in previous tablets like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, but it was nevertheless slick - and the software wasn't final either.

Operating System

The Archos 80 G9 ships with Android 3.2.46, the highest-numbered version of the OS we've seen up until now.
by c|net (Oct, 2011)
Archos already has several generations of Android tablets under its belt, but the latest G9 range sounds like by far the best of the lot.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
They traded-in too many features to reach a low price point, and none of them even featured the Android Market app store.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)

While not ideal for movie-watching, as you'll either have to chop off the ends of the screen or deal with black bars above and below the picture, it feels more compact than a wider device like the original Archos 101 (and not just because its screen is 2in smaller).
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
With the 80 G9 held in landscape mode, the viewing angle from the bottom and right side is narrower than from the top or left side.
by c|net (Oct, 2011)
When viewed from the bottom or right the screen looks darker and it's harder to see details.
by c|net (Oct, 2011)

For that reason, we do appreciate the inclusion of the kickstand, and the Mini-HDMI port is a useful addition, especially given the 80 G9's 1080p video capability.
by c|net (Oct, 2011)
On the side of the tablet is a mini HDMI slot, which will let you watch these HD videos on your TV too.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
At the opposite end, where the USB cable plugs into the separate power adapter, the cable also sits in the power adapter loosely.
