Reviews Word on the street for the Archos 101 XS

At $399 with the Coverboard, the price is definitely right for the 101 XS — you'll be hard-pressed to find another tablet / keyboard combination for the price.

Android fans will be pleased to hear that Android is in place on the Archos 101 XS in pretty much vanilla form.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

The 10.1in 101xs also uses a 1,280 x 800 MVA display, which should offer comparable quality to IPS-based rivals and will beat the pants off some competitors still using TN screens.

Archos has seen fit to equip this thing with a 1280x800 screen and a plastic touchscreen.
by Android Police (Aug, 2012)
It's centered above the screen on laptops, and it's centered above the screen on tablets.

Operating System

Being a budget Android tablet is tough these days.
by Android Police (Aug, 2012)
Physical keyboard-packing tablets are becoming increasingly more popular and, with Windows 8 on the very near horizon, we expect to see many more Android devices packing a QWERTY punch.
by TechRadar (Sep, 2012)
The more I use a Nexus 7 the more I realize how much smoother and faster Android 4.1 really is, even for very basic things: switching homescreens, opening and closing apps, and even scrolling are all seamless in a way they just aren't on Android 4.0.
by The Verge (Aug, 2012)

Operating system

As mentioned, the Archos 101 XS comes running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, although a Q4 2012 update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is promised.
by TechRadar (Sep, 2012)
You can, of course, team up any Android (or iOS) device with a keyboard using Bluetooth connectivity, but Archos has chosen the docking keyboard option for the 101 XS.
by TechRadar (Sep, 2012)
Flash support is there right from the off, with the latest version of Adobe's software pre-installed, despite Google's move away from the platform.

Plastic isn't as rigid as glass, so any force the tablet encounters could get applied to the touchscreen, which could make the touchscreen touch the internal components and start triggering touch events.
by Android Police (Aug, 2012)
The tablet runs smoothly, so long as the touchscreen isn't freaking out, and it can power though more complex apps like Google Earth with ease.
by Android Police (Aug, 2012)
The added friction makes using the touchscreen feel like a chore.
by Android Police (Aug, 2012)

In legacy apps it opens the menu, and in modern ICS and above apps, it opens the action bar overflow menu.
by Android Police (Aug, 2012)
This is almost universally a good thing: the 101 supports basically every file format you can throw at it, and the apps themselves are quite nice-looking.
by The Verge (Aug, 2012)
Archos has also pre-installed a great media playback platform, with the Music and Video apps able to handle pretty much any file type you throw their way.
