Multi-touch is fully supported, and while its ability to sense four points of contact at once is just "mid-range" in performance terms, it's easily enough for any gestures we've come across.

Reviews Word on the street for the Archos 101 G9

For Android phone users, Archos Remote Control is available from the Android Market and enables you to control the 101 G9 from your phone.

The G9 devices, the 101 and 80, are the first Archos Android tablets to give you Android Market access as standard, and it's what makes the 101 G9 a viable alternative to more upmarket rivals.

The Music tool replaces the standard Android offering, making for a far more visually appealing interface for handling your favourite tunes.

What People Are Saying Give it to me straight

Archos's G9 101 doesn't have an IPS display, but it does offer remarkably good performance.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
From a luminance standpoint, the 101 G9's screen is one of the dimmest we've seen and is about 90 cd/m2 dimmer than the Toshiba Thrive's screen.

They were basically MP3 players with good video codec support and, usually, large enough screens to watch a movie on.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)

Connection options for the base unit are limited to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth only, but Archos is keen to promote its 3G USB dongle that can be plugged into a special slot on the machine's underside.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2011)
If we're being picky, it would have been good to have a standard-sized USB port too, so that you could plug USB flash drives filled with media into it.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2011)
For that reason, we do appreciate the inclusion of the kickstand, and the Mini-HDMI port is a useful addition, especially given the 101 G9's 1080p video capability.

It lasted a solid eight hours off a full charge when playing back a standard definition Divx video on loop.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
Battery life is good, managing five hours of use when playing back movies.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2011)
Format support is excellent, the screen's decent and battery life compares fairly well with more expensive tablets.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)

The way your media is displayed in the Archos Video and Music apps is excellent, and thanks to album covers and movie posters, it produces an incredible experience.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2011)
Performance is lagging behind the competition, and while this doesn't appear to affect movie playback, going forward this is going to rule this tablet out of playing some games and handling certain apps smoothly.
by TechRadar (Oct, 2011)
Playing games will reduce this, while simple surfing should see this extended to as long as seven hours.

Battery life

Battery life when playing video is good too.
by TrustedReviews (Mar, 2012)
This review was updated to add CNET Labs' battery life test results.
by c|net (Oct, 2011)
Archos also charges a premium for its Cinema plug-in, which enables AC3 5.1 audio and the MPEG2 HD video codec.
