Full Windows 8 PCs running newer Intel Atom processors and costing around $400 have been here for the last year, but here's why the T100 is special: it has a newer Bay Trail Atom processor that's faster and offers far better battery life, and the overall shape and design is a lot like the Asus Transformer Android keyboarded tablets, which we've always been fond of.

The 1,920 by 1080 resolution is great for movies (and means you'll keep the DPI and zoom settings up, because while text is crisp, clear and smooth it can also be a little small on the 10.6-inch screen).

The display, though not high resolution, is bright and colorful thanks to Samsung's PLS technology that's similar to IPS, and the tablet is attractive even if it is cursed with Samsung's love of shiny plastic.

In return you get a stunning 2560 x 1600 display with lovely colors and clarity, the S Pen for precise writing and drawing, Samsung's excellent Multi Window split window multitasking, good S Pen support from third party notes and drawing apps, a fast CPU, expandable storage and USB host.

It's touted to come with built-in cellular network support while maintaining a sleek, easy-to-take form.

The idea of adapting Android apps is an exciting one, and the implementation is rock solid, but there still aren’t enough good apps to make the PlayBook’s App World a compelling ecosystem.
